Armor plate is difficult to cut using conventional machining methods, but waterjet cutting technology makes cutting through armor plate a quick and easy job. For quotes on waterjet cutting armor plate, contact Accurate Waterjet.
What is Armor Plate
An armor plate or trauma plate is a thick sheet of metal or other protective material strong enough to withstand explosive percussion, armor-piercing bullets, or rifle shots. These sheets can be cut and formed into customize shields. Armor plates are typically made from steel, titanium, or some other form of hard metal.
Abrasion Resistant Steel – R400 & AR500 Steel
Abrasion-resistant steel is often referred to as armor plate, and it cuts very well on the waterjet. Hard metals are difficult to machine conventionally, so waterjet cutting armor plate is now standard for both military and civil defense industries.
Waterjet Cutting Wear Plates
Wear plates are small plates of metal cut in any necessary shape to protect objects against abrasions and wearing of surfaces. Much like armor plates, wear plates are made from hard metals that can provide protection from impacts and abrasion. Typically, wear plates are customized to fit the customer’s needs. You can email us specs and/or a rough sketch and description of the wear plate you’re envisioning, bring us the materials you want to use, or have us order it, and we’ll take it from there.
Waterjet Cutting Armor Plate and Other Materials
Waterjet cutting is a cold process, so it won’t cause warping or changes to metal hardness like hot process cutting with a plasma or laser does. When you use plasma or lasers to cut metal, the heat hardens the edges of the metal. This makes it even harder to machine any further. Cutting materials with a waterjet eliminates those types of problems.
Tolerances are consistently good and cutting with our cold process won’t make further machining your metal parts harder. Like shot peening, waterjet cutting doesn’t cause warping because it relieves pressure in metal using abrasives. Our waterjet can cut materials from .001″ thick up to 12″ thick. It can even cut a bowling ball in half.
