This was City of Tempe art project completed in 2009 that consisted of 6 different panels constructed of 1/2″ Aluminum plate. The art was created by cutting holes through the material in different sizes to create shades when viewed from a distance which allow you to see images. Smaller holes give a lighter area and larger holes give a darker area. If you are standing next to the panels they don’t really look like anything but holes but as you back away from them the image then appears.
There are 3 panels on the grounds around the Public Library and Museum but you have to walk near the Museum building to see one of them. You can see one of the “Peterson House” from the west parking lot of the Museum and the one of the old “Hand Water Pump” (featured image) is visible as you drive through the main parking lot in front of the Public Library Building.
There are 3 other panels you can see along Southern Ave. on the south side of the road as you drive eastbound just before you get to Rural Rd. The first is a set of old fashioned “Skeleton Keys” on a ring, the second being an old fashioned “Baby Carriage” and the third being an image of the “Original Railroad Bridge” across the Salt River from around 1900.
